Brothers,
It’s hard to believe that the first quarter of the fraternal year is already over and we have a lot to be proud of over the last few months. We bought and renovated a food service trailer; we took part in the Aquatic Special Olympics, assisted with the Parish Groundbreaking, assisted at the Annual Mexican Dinner and Cultural Days, and had an impressive showing at a First Degree Ceremony in September. This does not include all of our Brothers that are Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, and Lectors within our Parish. As you can see we are very busy and if you look at this next quarter it isn’t slowing down any. We have a Spaghetti Dinner, Cowboy/Golf Outing, Red Ribbon Sunday, Keep Christ in Christmas Poster contest, Breakfast with St. Nick, Family Clay Shoot, and a Corporate Communion to just name a few items. And so again I ask each and every one of you to look into your heart and see where you can help this Council out. The first step needed by all Brothers is to start attending the monthly General Membership meetings. The General Membership meetings are held the Second Thursday of each month and this is the time to come and find out what is going on within our Council. Many times e-mails just don’t cover the need for things that need to be done and it is the personal appeals that might move you. I know very well how busy our lives are with work and family and sometimes it is hard but I ask you to try and make these meetings as much as possible. The meetings allow you to feel a sense of Brotherhood within our Council.
I’ll be honest in that attendance in our meetings has been falling over the last few months. As I’ve mentioned before we have well over 300 Knights within our Council yet have somewhere around 20-30 Knights attend our General Membership meeting. This isn’t even 10% of our Council showing up. So I ask how can you be more involved if you are not aware of what is going on within the Council. Please take the time to attend these General Meetings.
In the coming months our council will be organizing our largest fund raiser for the year and that is our St. Valentines Dinner and Dance. The dance this year is co-chaired by Troy Murphy and Michael Kells-Murphy who will be asking for the support from the entire council in either manpower or attendance or both. The next time you see either of these two gentlemen thank them for stepping up to the task as well as let them know what you can do to help out with the event. This event will not be a success without each and every Brother, like anything we do within the Council we need your support.
I don’t mean to harp on the same subject each quarter but when you joined the Knights you felt a certain calling to be more and to do more. The first step was joining the Knights but like anything in life its how you keep moving forward with the decisions you make. You decided to join the Knights and once that decision was made you need to need to ask yourself “What now?” Above are two opportunities to answer that question of “What now?” so please take the time to think about both and I look forward to seeing you at the General Membership meetings.
Your Grand Knight,
Sean McCarthy
